Heeling: Focus and Footwork Fundamentals
Begins Monday January 5th at 1:00 pm Instructor: Brenda Belmonte, CPDT-KA, CNWI
Service Description
This is a 4-Week specialty class that will build beautiful, reliable heeling by breaking the skills into small, achievable "bites." This focused four-week program teaches dogs and handler the foundation of precise heel position, smooth movement, and consistent engagement - without overwhelming either half of the team. What We Cover: * Prop-Based Positioning: Learn how to use cones, platforms and other tactile guides to help your dog understand and maintain correct heel placement. * Footwork and Timing for Handlers: Discover how your body language, steps and movement patterns shape your dog's success. We'll teach you how to communicate clearly through intentional footwork and hand targeting. * Fading the Lure: Transition from guiding your dog with food to building a genuine understanding and focus. * Micro-Skill Progression: Each week introduces small, digestible steps that build toward confident forward movement, turns and sustained attention. PREREQUISITES: Success completion of a Basic Manners class, Basic Obedience, class or by instructor approval. PLEASE NOTE: The use of cook or prong collars is not permitted in this class. This is a non-correction-based, positive training program. Perfect for teams preparing for competition, polishing loose-leash walking, or building a more connected, mindful heel. Let's build precision - one tiny step at a time!
